Pioneer Leadership Development Program
There are those that work at the frontier of society, these are Pioneer Leaders. They inspire us, motivate us, push us and bring out the best in us in order to move us forward in human development. Becoming a leader is not that difficult but leading with wisdom is hard.
You can't lead with wisdom unless you understand the bigger story: the Human Venture. Who are we? Where have we come from? Where are we going? Pioneer leadership links one's personal life journey with the human venture - integrating self-leadership with leadership in relationships, organizations, communities, societies and cultures.
Exploring the human venture and pioneer leadership entails life-long learning. One needs to be committed to deep understanding and be disciplined in drawing from collective striving, achievement, failures and learning across cultures, world views, disciplines and periods of history.
The pioneer leadership program is an exploration of how to contribute positively to the messy historical process of improvements and transformations, set-backs and misdirections of the human venture.
In addressing today's problems, complacency, cynicism and despair are not options. Pioneer leadership is a work in progress, but many of the principles are already mapped out and we know more than enough to bring out the best of humanity to solve problems for today's generation and future ones.

Pioneer Leadership Development Program Details
The Pioneer Leadership experience will take place from November through June, which will include a weekend "opening retreat" and "learning days", two full days per month (Friday afternoon and evening and Saturday morning and afternoon), and a "closing retreat".
Opening Retreat
Designed to give participants an opportunity to form the beginning of a learning community, the class will receive an in-depth introduction and an overview of the first several learning days, which will be organized by Ken Low from the Action Studies Institute and the program team, made up of Leadership Edmonton alumni.
Learning Days
Learning Days will explore key concepts using examples from local, regional, national and international experiences. Participants become skilled at looking beneath the surface to understand the root cause of a problem and to use a set of tools of wisdom and judgment to guide their decision making as they strive to find solutions.
Learning Days will be experiential in nature and will provide participants with the opportunity to interact with individuals who have taken on leadership challenges in a wide range of fields.
The Learning Days also include discussions with Edmonton's established leaders, who will share the challenges and rewards of their leadership journey and how they have applied their experiences in a community context.
Alumni, Mentorship and Peer Networks
Not only will Leadership Edmonton provide a learning environment like no other, the program learning days and retreat will facilitate interaction and build connections between the participants and alumni, as well as established community leaders. And, as the program enters subsequent years, graduates will become part of this network of leaders, ready to share their experiences and insights with program participants to continue the life-long learning.
